IMPORTANT NOTICE EFFECTIVE 1 OCTOBER 2009 To All Staff and Postgraduate Students: RE: Postgraduate Student Access to IS Facilities in “Writing Up Period” As you may be aware, the process for continuing or obtaining access to IS Facilities, including computing and printing facilities and library access, following the end of your registration period is about to change. Who is affected? The change will affect any postgraduate student who is required to pay a fee to keep access to email, libraries, workstations and printing facilities. This includes research students who have passed their end of registration date and taught postgraduates who have submitted but are now required to amend and resubmit their dissertation. What has changed? If you started your postgraduate programme of study before 1 August 2007 (research or taught), you will now be required to sign a Continuation Registration Form and pay your fee to the Cash Office in the Welcome Centre. The fee amount will remain the same: currently £15 per month refundable if you submit your thesis on time. If you are a research student and you started your postgraduate programme of study after 1 August 2007, you will be required to sign a Continuation Registration Form and pay your fee to the Cash Office in the Welcome Centre. However, in addition to this, the fee amount has also changed. The fee for Continuation Registration will be 10% of the annual home/EU tuition fee depending on whether you were a full-time or part-time student at the end of your regular registration. (e.g. If you completed your regular registration period as a full-time student, you will pay 10% of the annual full-time home/EU tuition fee.) This fee is non-refundable and is annual: you will gain access until the end of a 12 month period, until you submit your thesis or until your submission deadline, whichever comes first. What do I need to do? STUDENTS If you have already paid for access, no action is required at this time, but you will be required to sign a Continuation Registration Form should you need to extend access. If you are nearing the end of your registration period or have submitted a dissertation (taught students) and have been notified that you are required to resubmit, you must sign the form and go to or contact the Cash Office to pay the appropriate fee. STAFF Ensure you advise students to go to the Cash Office and not Hugh Owen Library Lending Desk to pay for access. Copies of the form can be obtained from your department or HERE. |
