Workflow Management for the National Library of Wales (NLW)
As one of the four copyright libraries in the UK,
NLW
receives a copy of all books published in Wales. With an archive
of over 4 million artefacts, NLW decided to digitise their
collection for reasons of conservation and restoration as well
as making items more available to the public via the internet.
One of two applications implemented for NLW, CASIS has provided a
Workflow Management System which improves the efficiency and
quality of their digitisation process.
After consulting with NLW in order to understand their existing system,
CASIS developed a software solution accessible over an
intranet by different stages of the process.
Factory Automation for Invertek Drives
Invertek Drives
manufacture energy efficient electrical motor controllers and hand
held command units. CASIS has worked with Invertek Drives since 2002 developing desktop
PC and multiple platform PDA versions of their drive control software. As well as allowing
remote control of factory machinery, the software provides monitoring and diagnostic information
about the drive units. Improvements made by CASIS to the functionality and user interface
of their original product line have firmly established Invertek Drives as a global
supplier in their market.
Broadsword Interactive and Dance UK
Broadsword Interactive Ltd,
who designed Dance UK ( Sony's recent computer game for Playstation)
joined forces with CASIS in order to achieve their aim of creating the most realistic animated
dancer possible for the game. Using the VICON 3D motion capture facility, our centres experts
used real-time motion capture technology to record the movements of professional dancers as they
went through each routine. By working with CASIS, Broadsword Interactive Ltd were able to achieve
their aim of creating the most realistic animated dancer for use in Dance:UK, and the game was
released in time for the Christmas seasonal boom of computer games sales.
Halen Môn Plant Monitoring System
Halen Môn,
a small, but rapidly growing company producing organically
certified sea-salt for culinary use contacted CASIS in the
hope of finding a way of automating their monitoring process.
CASIS were able to draw on their hardware, software and
system design expertise to provide a custom
built plant monitoring and logging system specifically
tailored to their production plant. The system constantly
monitors temperatures, fluid flow rates, salt concentrations
and system pressures, automatically alerting staff via mobile
phone text messages when a fault occurs. The system has the
added benefit of alerting staff to a plant shutdown, and
has improved the efficiency and accuracy of
the plant monitoring process.
Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Trust
Research and development is being undertaken into staging, classification
and detection of prostate cancer, using MRI scan data and images. This
research has built on previous work in analysis of mammographic data.
Our experts, in collaboration with radiologists, have developed an
innovative hybrid 2d and 3d active shaping technique to build a 3d model
of the prostate gland from magnetic resonance segmentation data.
Classification methods are then applied to the segmented prostrate in
order to automatically locate any abnormalities.
