Expertise and Facilities

The breadth and depth of knowledge which CASIS is able to offer reflects the wide range of Computer Science research capabilities at the universities in Aberystwyth and Cardiff. Recognised as being amoung the leading such facilities in the UK, both departments have world class expertise in these and many other areas.
The Centre employs a Commercial Manager and Software Engineers dedicated to the provision of focused and productive support to local, national and international companies, including organisations that are seeking to invest in Wales.

The Centre is equipped with two large networks of high performance Sun workstations, 60 and 40 processor Beowulf clusters and two large Sun Enterprise 6500 Servers. These software development environments are enhanced with specialist packages, Image and vision processing, Knowledge-based tools, CAD and graphics, Mathematical software, OO databases, Agent toolkits, CAL, and Data mining. Training facilities include two workstation teaching rooms, a specialised multimedia/internet laboratory, a robotics laboratory, a 3D vision laboratory, a Vicon real-time tracking facility, and a range of specialist graphics workstations.
