The Role, Functions and Future Potential of Town and Community Councils in Wales.

A Research Study commissioned by the Welsh Assembly Government, and undertaken by the Regional Change & Development Research Group, Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences, University of Wales, Aberystwyth.


  Project Team.

 

The study is being undertaken by a research team within the Regional Change and Development Research Group at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. The Regional Change and Development Research Group is one of the leading centres for socio-economic research in Wales, specialising in local, regional and community governance; community development and rural change; local and regional politics; rural and urban policy; economic development; labour markets and training policy; environmental policy; and rural healthcare. Over the last decade, the group has undertaken over £1.5 million worth of research contracts for a range of public and voluntary sector agencies and leading academic funding bodies, including the Economic and Social Research Council and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.

 

The research team on this project is led by Dr Michael Woods and Dr Bill Edwards, and includes Dr Jon Anderson, Dr Graham Gardner and Rachel Gwenllian Hughes. The research team have considerable experience of working on issues of local politics, local government and community development in both Wales and England. They recently completed a major study of participation in rural community governance in England and Wales, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council; and Dr Edwards and Dr Woods have previously conducted research for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation on partnership working in rural regeneration
