Yr Athro Aled G. Jones BA (Caerefrog), MA, PhD (Warwig), yw Athro Hanes Cymru Syr John Williams. Mae ef hefyd yn Gymrawd o’r Gymdeithas Hanes Frenhinol.

Mae’r Athro Jones yn arbenigo yn hanes modern Cymru, a’i chysylltiadau â’r Ymerodraeth yn arbennig, a hanes y cyfryngau Prydeinig o ddiwedd y ddeunawfed ganrif hyd heddiw. Ymhlith ei gyhoeddiadau y mae Press, Politics and Society. A History of Journalism in Wales (1993), a Powers of the Press. Newspapers, power and the public in nineteenth-century England (1996).  Ef yw cyd-olygydd y  Welsh History Review a bu’n Gyfarwyddwr Llenyddol (Modern) y Gymdeithas Hanes Frenhinol  (2000-2004). Ar hyn o bryd, mae ei waith ymchwil yn canolbwyntio ar genedaethau Protestannaidd Cymreig yn yr India rhwng 1840 a 1966, ac fe gafodd ei ethol yn Gymrawd o Gymdeithas Frenhinol Asia yn 2004 am ei waith ar hanes y Cymry yn Bengal. Bu’n Bennaeth yr Adran Hanes a Hanes Cymru (1994-2002), yn Ddeon Cyfadran y Celfyddydau (2004-5) ac ef ar hyn o bryd yw Dirprwy Is-Ganghellor y Brifysgol gyda chyfrifoldeb dros Ymchwil, Polisi Iaith a Datblygiad Rhyngwladol. Bu’n aelod o’r Panel Hanes yn Ymarfer Asesiad Ymchwil 2008 (2005-2008).
