Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. channel their creative energy with purpose by accomplishing specific scripting tasks
2. use their personal experience as a source of ideas
3. develop an idea into a draft of dramatic activity
4. create imaginary characters and give them a suitable voice
5. demonstrate skills of creating monologues and dialogues
6. collaborate to select material in order to draw up a script as a group
7. demonstrate suitable marketing skills for identifying an audience for their work
Brief description
The module will introduce the students to a number of the basic skills which are relevant to the craft of scripting plays, such as response to stimulus, organising time, centering on specific tasks within a set timetable, planning and preparation skills, skills in drawing up monologues and dialogues, the craft of creating characters, revising and editing skills, and responding positively to external criticism.
Content
Session 1: Searching and finding inspiration
Session 2: Responding to various stimuli
Session 3: Developing an idea into a draft and incorporating that draft in the form of a dramatic activity
Session 4: Creating characters
Session 5: Giving characters voice and the freedom to speak to each other
Session 6: Choosing material to create a short script in collaboration
Session 7: Drawing up a script in collaboration
Session 8: Introducing and planning effective methods of giving potential employers a taste of the work
