Learning Outcomes

The module should enable students to:

  • understand the implications of recent changes in the management of schools and their curricula and other factors influencing the information needs of the school community;
  • appreciate the range of characteristics of information resources available to support teaching and learning
  • understand the role which the school library resource centre can play in support of the school curriculum
  • appreciate the importance of effective management policies and practices to enable the school library resource centre to play a key role within the school

Aims

The aims of this module are:

  • to describe the role that libraries can play in support of teaching and learning in the school context;
  • to identify the range of services and resources needed to enable a school library resource centre to perform this role effectively;
  • to discuss some of the major issues in the management of school library resource centres
