Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Describe how information science, information management and knowledge management evolved;
2. Identify the main roles of information professionals;
3. Demonstrate an understanding of the meaning applied to information in varying contexts.
4. Discuss implications of information technology, such as the impact of the internet on information use
5. Describe the types of recorded information available, and how different information formats operate;
6. Undertake an effective search for information using a variety of resources, with an emphasis on those provided by AU.
Brief description
The aim of this module is to give students an introduction to the meaning and foundations of the information profession by investigating the varied roles of the information professional, and why these are important in today¿s rapidly changing world. It also aims to place information studies in context by looking at the development of information studies as an academic discipline. Finally, students will be introduced to information searching and encouraged to think critically about the information sources available to them through the University and more widely.
