On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Describe how information science, information management and knowledge management evolved.
Identify the main roles and skill of information professionals and knowledge managers.
Discuss why information is important to an organisation, and how this relates to decision making
Discuss the importance of document and record management
Discuss the economic and social implications of information technology.
Explain why issues of governance and quality are important in the knowledge intensive organisation.
Identify some of the key players in the information sector in the UK and discuss the changing directions of the profession.
Brief description
The aim of this module is to give you an insight in the core comcepts and principles present in the work of information managers, information scientists, knowledge managers, IT and systems consultants, and other information and IT specialists.
Content
A combination of lectures and seminars covering an introduction to the module, the history of the information management, skills, consultants, and information professionals, information and the business world. , e-commerce, knowledge management, storage and retreival of information, the use of intranets and internet, information and decision making, quality, goverance and professional conduct, an overview of future directions and the changing nature of information related indusries.
