Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module students will have acquired a basic stock of German political vocabulary and be able to understand their English equivalents. They will be able to translate political texts from German into English with a high degree of fluency, recognising the special requirements of such translations, and will be familiar with various aspects of German political life.

Brief description

This course involves translation from German political sources (theoretical and topical), and aims to familiarise students with (1) a special register of the language and (2) the significant political issues in contemporary political life in Germany. Students are requested to read the current periodicals and newspapers held in the Department and to make use of the satellite TV in the Language Laboratory.
