Aims
Sport & Exercise Psychology is a key discipline within Sport & Exercise Science and as such is a required area of study for students reading for a degree in Sport & Exercise Science. It's inclusion is key to developing an multidimensional understanding of the exercise or sports participant/non-participant to complement understanding developed in other core areas of Sprot & Exercise Science.
Content
This module covers psychological aspects of sport and exercise participation, considering both theoretical perspective and practical issues. Topics covered in a sport context include anxiety and performance, sports burnout, eating disorders and excessive exercise, and group dynamics and leadership issues. From an exercise perspective, topics covered include determinants of physical activity, social support and strategies for enhancing exercise adherence, public health recommendations for physical activity, and, interventions for groups and individuals.
Brief description
This module builds on the scope and depth of the topics covered on the level one modules, Foundations of Sport Psychology and Foundations of Exercise Psychology. the module considers key theoretical approaches within sport and exercise psychology that are used to underpin understanding of the psychological aspects of sport and exercise participation. The module requires students to critically consier research pertaining to sport and exercise psychology and its application.
