Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the legal issues associated with gaining a presence, transacting and performing commercial activity on the Internet;
2. Critically evaluate a range of regulatory approaches employed in the regulation of electronic commerce;
3. Evaluate the risks posed to intellectual property rights by online activity and critically assess the legal responses to those risks;
4. Formulate coherent arguments as to how and when contracts are entered into online and strategies for limiting risk and liability;
5. Demonstrate an understanding of measures applicable to online commerce which provide consumers with high levels of protection and evaluate the appropriateness and effectiveness of the same;
6. Critically assess the alternative methods of dispute resolution employed in the online environment.

Brief description
The module examines in-depth, key legal issues associated with commercial activity on the Internet. Students will engage with contentious legal challenges associated with the fastest growing area of commercial activity. The module begins with an examination of some of the legal issues associated with having an online presence, proceeds through transactional legal issues and concludes with dispute resolution. In this way, students travel the course of commercial activity from start to finish.
