Supplementary Assessment Repeat failed component (for presentation a 1500 word essay)  In the case of the Group Presentation students will be given a 1,500 word essay. 

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Demonstrate knowledge of how to develop arguments in relation to Sport & Exercise Science topics.

Demonstrate knowledge of how to apply the principles of critical analysis and synthesis of Sport & Exercise Science information.

Demonstrate knowledge of how to interpret Sport & Exercise Science research.

Use critical sources of feedback to facilitate self-reflection and identify strategies for academic development.

Aims

Higher Education requires the mastery and application of critical analysis skills to deal with the demands and challenges offered by study at this level. Students in Higher Education are also required to work with increasing autonomy as they progress through the degree, necessitating the development of skills in self-reflection, action planning and reviewing. These skills are also required in workplace settings post-graduation. The aims of this module are therefore to increase students' awareness of the need for critical analysis and self-reflection and to provide opportunities to develop such skills.

Brief description

The purpose of this module is to provide a grounding in critical analysis skills required in Higher Education and the workplace post-graduation and to further develop students' critical self-reflection skills to facilitate optimal academic achievement. Students will gain an opportunity to engage in critical anlaysis of Sport & Exercise Science information and research, to develop cogent arguments in relation to Sport & Exercise Science issues and to engage in self-reflection, action planning and reviewing with a view to facilitating improvements in academic achievement. The module will incorporate a range of teaching and learning methods: workshops, group tutorials and seminars. Some module activities will integrate elements covered in other Sport & Exercise Science modules for instance, reviewing assessment feedback and devising action plans to facilitate future academic development.

Problem solving In workshop activities throughout the module. Devising action plans to facilitate personal development. Students will be required to think critically about Sport & Exercise Science topics, research and issues and to develop cogent arguments to arrive at a reasoned stance on an issue or topic.
Research skills Using bibliographic databases to source references.
Subject Specific Skills
Team work Students will work in groups on the group presentation assessment and will reflect on their group work experiences and skills.
