Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module, students should be able to;
1. Demonstrate a detailed understanding of the fundamental principles, doctrines and concepts associated with International Commercial Law.
2. Use advanced legal skills and information in order to critically evaluate complex and specialised provisions and their impact on commercial activity, both at a practical and theoretical level.
3. Demonstrate an understanding of the interaction between commercial activity, environmental protection and fundamental human rights and critically assess the tensions created between the competing interests.
4. Locate and evaluate the relevant literature and materials in this field and use them in critical discussions of the subject, both individually and as a member of a group.
5. Demonstrate a critical approach to complex international legal problems and present well informed analysis of these topics.
6. Demonstrate the ability to employ advanced skills and analytical tools to conduct research that shall be useful for both practitioners and academic researchers.

Brief description

The module will provide the opportunity to study, in depth, key concepts, mechanisms and issues in transnational commercial law. From the history and background to harmonisation and future directions, students will be exposed to a wide range of material. Uniquely, the module also provides the opportunity to engage with and evaluate the current challenges to commercial activity associated with corporate responsibility, environmental protection and sustainability, human rights, and the impact of information technology.
