Graddiodd Dennis Thomas, sy’n frodor o Lanelli, a chefnogwr brwd o dîm rygbi’r Scarlets, mewn Economeg o Brifysgol Aberystwyth. Yn dilyn astudiaethau uwchraddedig ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd dychwelodd i Aberystwyth fel tiwtor yn gyntaf ac yna fel Darlithydd. Mae ei ymrwymiadau darlithio presennol yn cynnwys Microeconomeg Ganolraddol, Oligopoli a Damcaniaeth Gêm, Economeg y Cwmni a Chyfundrefn a Pholisi Diwydiannol.
Mae ei ddiddordeb tymor hir yn hanes economaidd Cymru a’i datblygiad economaidd modern wedi creu cynnyrch ymchwil sylweddol, ac mae wedi’i gydnabod mewn nifer o ffyrdd gan gynnwys gwahoddiad i gyflwyno darlith i Gymdeithas Anrhydeddus y Cymmrodorion yn yr Academi Brydeinig a’i gyfnod fel cyd-olygydd cyfnodolyn Contemporary Wales, yn ogystal â chyswllt â nifer o brosiectau sydd wedi’u cyllido’n allanol. Mae ei ddiddordeb mewn materion lleol a rhanbarthol yn ddiweddar wedi gweld ffocws cynyddol ar ddatblygiad entrepreneuriaeth, a maes arall perthnasol yw archwilio profiadau ôl-breifateiddio’r sector gwasanaethau dŵr yng Nghymru a’i drawsnewidiad o’i rôl o fewn menter aml-wasanaeth Hyder i ffurf chwyldroadol menter Glas Cymru.
Mae Dennis Thomas hefyd wedi ymchwilio’n helaeth i economeg chwaraeon tîm proffesiynol. Yn ogystal â’i erthyglau niferus i gyfnodolion yn ymchwilio i benderfynyddion galw presenoldeb, effaith y maes cartref, marchnadoedd trosglwyddo ac agweddau cynhyrchu ac effeithlonrwydd, yn ddiweddar mae wedi cyfrannu pennod ar system ‘cadw a throsglwyddo’ chwaraewyr pêl-droed y gynghrair i’r Handbook of Sports Economics.
