We welcome your application: we will do all we can to help you achieve a successful academic and social life here at Aberystwyth. Each year we admit a large number of students who have disclosed a range of disabilities. Each year a large number graduate, having achieved success in their degree programme and in building a full and active social life.

To a large extent, success depends upon forward planning. To get the best from your time here, you are recommended to make contact with our Disability Adviser before submitting a formal application through UCAS. You can contact the Disability Adviser on (01970) 628537. Just let us know which course, or range of courses, interest you; the nature and extent of your disability; and any special equipment, teaching or residential services you require. Don’t hesitate to get in touch. If you have dyslexia, or a learning difficulty, we can provide specialised support for you. Qualified staff are available for advice and guidance. But your independence is also encouraged: specialist software is available on the University’s computer network, which can make things easier. Within
the main libraries, there are designated “green card” areas, specially set up with equipment to support students with visual or hearing impairment. We will be happy to arrange a visit to campus, and it is especially recommended if your mobility is a problem.

Then you can assess for yourself how suitable the environment is for you. The campus is located on a 11% gradient, but this needn’t be a problem. Following your visit, and discussion with our staff, together we will be able to judge if Aberystwyth is the best choice for you. If you are a UK student, you should also contact your local education authority about your entitlement to an additional Disabled Student Allowance. This will allow you to tailor equipment or services to your specific, individual requirements.
