Improving the quality of visual media in education, or anyone can make a movie!
Watch this presentation: link to Echo360 capture The increasing power and plummeting costs of video equipment and computer editing software have been accompanied by a massive increase in the use of video in education. From the surgeon who videos an operation to the student who records a lecture, non-professional video is at the forefront of this increase. Unfortunately, as the number of people creating video increases, the quality of the video created falls, with inaudible sound, shaky cameras and awkward editing amongst the problems which undermine the power of what should be a remarkable learning resource. This does not have to be the case. With a few pieces of advice and some careful preparation the quality of any video can be greatly improved. We will look at the most common problems found with non-professional video in education and explain how they can easily be rectified. Video examples will be presented to illustrate both the pitfalls and the ways they may be circumvented. We will demonstrate that the production of better videos can be achieved by anyone with just a little extra knowledge.

A number of invaluable tips were given to guide a novice video maker, avoiding many of the common pitfalls which all viewers have encountered at some time or other. Anyone embarking on a venture of this kind would do well to view this presentation, taking note of basic tips before enjoying various examples of how not to do things!
