Twelve teams from Welsh universities and further education colleges battled it out to provide innovative and practical solutions to a “live” project, supplied by Cynnal Cymru - Sustain Wales.

The Aberystwyth team’s Eco-Merge Interactive platform to increase collaboration between partner organisations and lead to a more sustainable Wales wowed the judges and deservedly earned ‘Simply Creative’ the top prize at the presentation evening.

All three hailed Brolio as a fantastic experience, particularly the opportunity to network with fellow marketers from industry and education.

Stacey Borel said,

"Participating in the Pitch was a fantastic experience. Not only was there a superb opportunity for networking, but it also allowed us to get a genuine hands-on experience of a real life business situation. All of which was an invaluable contribution both to our CV's and future careers in marketing."

Sophie added that the experience was a challenging one,

"The toughest challenge for us was to develop a unique idea, which would not only satisfy the needs of the CIM’s Pitch but also stand out from our competitors. Working together as a team and understanding the strengths of one another helped us to master this challenge."

Zuzanna also valued the teamwork element and of course, the reward of victory,

“Being a part of and winning Brolio/The Pitch 2014 was a rewarding life-learning experience testing our business knowledge, teamwork, and campaign development. The win in this challenge just adds on gratification and self-satisfaction of our vast effort and output we accomplished and helps us to grow our horizons.”

Julie McKeown, Employability co-ordinator for SMB added “This invaluable experience gives students exposure to companies talent spotting as well as confidence for the future.  The teamwork, planning, presentation skills and outputs are just what employers want to see from university business students and this team are now well positioned for great future careers.”

Congratulations also to our other SMB team Sean Midgeley, Rebecca Levin and Dan Phoenix. A strong challenge from a team of second and first year students who are sure to come back stronger than ever in 2015.
