New Students - What happens next?
What happens next after applying for accommodation?
Accommodation is allocated by a computerised system on a first come first served basis - in date and time order of you successfully submitting your online accommodation application - and in priority order as detailed in our Priorities Policy.
We will allocate you a place in residences, taking into account your preferences and will try to offer you one of your higher preferences. However, because the residences vary in the number of students they accommodate and some are more popular than others, obtaining your higher preferences cannot be guaranteed. If there is not a vacancy in your first preference of residence, we will consider all your other choices in priority order until a vacancy can be located.
When will I know which type of accommodation I have been offered?
Accommodation offers will be sent on a daily basis (Monday - Friday) provided you have:
- selected Aberystwyth as your Firm choice University.
- applied for university accommodation.
- an Unconditional Offer and have accepted your place to study at Aberystwyth University.
If you have a Conditional Offer this will become Unconditional once you receive your exam results, provided that these results meet the requirements of your academic offer.
Please follow the step by step guide below after you receive your accommodation offer:
Step 1 - Accommodation Offer
An accommodation offer will be sent to you by e-mail.
The e-mail account the offer is sent to will depend on whether you have activated your AU e-mail account – so please remember to check both your home and AU e-mails regularly.
Step 2 - Activate AU e-mail account
Activate Aberystwyth University (AU) e-mail account
From July onwards, once your academic offer is unconditional, details on how to activate your Aberystwyth University email account will be sent by e-mail to you from Information Services. Therefore please remember to regularly check your e-mails.
Activating your account will provide you with your AU username (e.g. abc1) and password. You will need this to be able to log into the Accommodation Portal to accept your accommodation offer. We therefore advise that you activate your account as soon as you are invited to do so in order to avoid any delays in accepting your accommodation offer.
Please note that once you have activated your AU e-mail account (e.g. email@example.com) the University will send all correspondence to this e-mail address ONLY, therefore it is important that you check it on a regular basis.
Step 3 - Accept your offer
Accept Accommodation Offer
Login to the Accommodation Portal* as 'Current Student' using your AU username (e.g abc1) and password.
Select the relevant application period - "Aberystwyth University Accommodation – Academic Year 2017/2018".
Click the 'Accommodation Offer' button and follow the guidance provided.
3.1 - Complete Accommodation Licence Pack
When you have accepted your accommodation offer you will be required to complete the Accommodation Licence Pack*. Click the 'Accommodation Licence Pack' button and follow the guidance provided.
Please note that you will be given a deadline date to respond to your offer and complete the Accommodation Licence Pack, normally between 7-14 days. However the amount of time will depend greatly on the time of year so some offers may have as little as 24 hours so please ensure that you KEEP CHECKING YOUR E-MAILS (your AU e-mail if activated).
3.2 - Complete Induction Programme (Key Release Form)
At the end of the Accommodation Licence Pack you are required to complete our online Induction Programme, which will provide you with useful information on living in University accommodation. At the end of the induction you will be able to choose an arrival date and time which will then produce a 'Key Release Form'. You will need to provide a copy of your key release form (printable or electronic) and bring it with you in exchange for your room key.
Step 4 - Move in!
Check out our Moving In section for a handy checklist of what to bring - we look forward to your arrival!
