Notes on Accommodation

Making Your Booking
Accommodation is available for the summer vacation in single study bedrooms at Cwrt Mawr hall of residence on a self-catered basis. Accommodation is only available to AU registered students; if you are not an AU registered student please contact the Conference Office conferences@aber.ac.uk who may be able to assist you.
To request accommodation for the summer period please complete the online application form by following the link below. You will need to log in as a current student and click apply under the Summer Accommodation heading:

Deadline date for receipt of applications is 5pm on Friday 18th May 2012.
Please note the following booking information:
1. Rooms are offered on a first come first served basis with priority given to students continuing their study course over the summer period.
2. The minimum stay is 1 month. Applications for summer accommodation will not be considered if you have an outstanding accommodation debt with AU.
3. Students will be bound by the dates of occupancy stated within the terms of the licence agreement and liable for all accommodation fees for the duration of the licence agreement.
4. Both successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified on or before Tuesday 22nd May 2012.
Late applications
After the initial deadline date of Friday 18th May 2012 we will re-open the online application form on Tuesday 22nd May 2012. Subject to availability, we will consider applications from late applicants on a first come first served basis (terms and conditions apply).
A deposit is required
Students currently in AU accommodation may transfer their term-time deposit across for Summer Residence.
The balance must be topped-up to the full £100. We will alert you if this is necessary.
In all other cases, a £100 deposit must be paid on receipt of your offer.
Cost
Cwrt Mawr: £88.96 (rounded weekly equivalent, energy and internet inclusive)
Allocations
Accommodation will be allocated on a first come, first served basis according to the date and time of your application.
We will aim to house people with the same length of stay together.
Unfortunately, we are unable to facilitate any requests for friends to live together.
Moving In - Transferring from Residences
The changeover date is fixed as Wednesday 13th June 2012 for summer accommodation. You may stay in your term-time room until this date for which you will be charged the standard nightly summer rate from Sunday 10th June 2012 until the changeover date.
All other arrivals
If you are not transferring from another AU Residence, you may arrive on any weekday from Monday 18th June 2012.
Unfortunately, earlier arrival dates cannot be considered due to the time needed to prepare your accommodation. All keys must be collected from the Accommodation Office at Penbryn Reception between 9am and 4pm Monday – Friday. We cannot issue keys outside these times. We will not be able to issue a key until you have signed a Licence Agreement and paid a £100 deposit.
Departures
The latest possible departure date for the summer period will be 10.00am on Friday 31st August 2012.
Keys must be returned to the Accommodation Office, Penbryn Reception at 9am on day of departure. We cannot re-let your room until the key is returned and consequently a nightly charge will apply until the key is returned and you will forfeit part of your deposit.
Accommodation from 31st August 2012
We are only able to offer accommodation from the 31st August 2012 to AU registered students who have already secured a place in AU residences for 2012/2013 session and have either stayed over the summer vacation or students wishing to return early for bone fide reasons approved in advance by the University.
Note: Students who have secured accommodation with AU for 2012/13 academic year may remain in their summer accommodation from the 31st August until their term time room is ready; the nightly cost will be charged at the 2012/13 rate from 1st September onwards.
About Your Room
The accommodation available will consist of a single study-bedroom in a flat with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. Each room will be equipped with a bed, wardrobe, desk and chair but you will need to provide your own bedding, crockery and cutlery.
Paying for Accommodation
You will be invoiced for the whole duration of your stay in full by the Student Fees Office. The amount may be paid in cash, or by cheque (payable to “AU”) or credit/debit card at Student Fees Office, Student Welcome Centre, Penglais Campus.
Deposits
If damage is caused to the property, or if you fail a cleaning inspection and we have to send in cleaners, a charge will be made against your deposit. A lost key, or failure to give in the key at the end of your stay will result in a £30 deduction (per key) to cover the cost of obtaining a replacement(s). Your deposit will be refunded less any deductions by 30th November 2012 at the latest after you have vacated your room.
