Bar set high by Aber Law School in NSS Survey

Students at Aberystwyth University’s Law and Criminology Department have given its main Law degree course an excellent score of 89% in influential UK survey as students, higher than the UK figure of 86%.
Students taking part in the 2016 National Student Survey (NSS) rated the Law Department highly in staff support and improving student’s communication skills, rating it within the top 20% of 101 similar courses in the UK for both areas.
The Law Department’s achievements are part of a success story at Aberystwyth University which is rated the best in Wales and one of the top ten higher education institutions in the UK for overall student satisfaction, according to the annual survey.
The results show that overall satisfaction amongst students at Aberystwyth University stands at 92% - that’s six percentage points higher than the UK figure of 86%.
Professor John Williams, Head of Law and Criminology at Aberystwyth University, said: “Following on from our employability figures earlier in the year with 100% of our Law graduates in work or further study six months after leaving, we are really pleased with our latest figures from the NSS polls.
“Our 2015 graduates have gone into a variety of roles including a Paralegal, a Conveyancing Trainee, an HMRC Criminal Investigator and a Victim Support Officer. Others have gone on to study at postgraduate level on courses such as the Legal Practice Course, LLM Legal and Political Aspects of International Affairs, MSc in Law and Business as well as The Bar Professional Training Course. It’s good to see that not only is our flagship Law degree above the UK figure for overall satisfaction, Aberystwyth University as a whole has also scored exceptionally well.”
The National Student Survey (NSS) collects data from 155 of the UK’s Higher Education Institutions and is recognised as an influential source of information for prospective students when considering their options.

The NSS figures follow closely on the heels of the latest employability figures for UK universities which showed that 100% of law degree graduates were in work or further study six months after leaving Aberystwyth University in 2015.
The National Student Survey is carried out annually by IPSOS Mori on behalf of all the UK’s funding councils and other bodies, interviewing around 312,000 final year students in Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
