National Student Survey 2016

School of Art 100% Student Satisfaction. Top 5 in the UK FINE ART. National Student Survey 2016

Launched in 2005, the National Student Survey is an annual survey of all final year undergraduate degree students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Market researchers Ipsos MORI conduct the survey on behalf of the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). The Survey is designed to collect, assess and publish information on the undergraduate student experience across the UK.

The Survey does not necessarily compare like with like. Almost all universities and many Further Education colleges participate, and yet their standard of assessments, the abilities and expectations of their students, their resources and facilities, vary considerably from institution to institution, from department to department. What the Survey tells us is how satisfied are students with what they get.

The Survey comprises 23 questions to assess the student learning experience across the following themes: Teaching; Assessment and Feedback; Academic Support; Organisation and Management; Learning Resources; Personal Development; and Overall Satisfaction. NSS results are published on HEFCE’s website and on Unistats website where they are seen by prospective students. To varying degrees, the NSS results and other measures are used by the press when commenting on British universities.

So, the NSS is important to you, to the School of Art and Aberystwyth University. At Aberystwyth we take our students' feedback seriously. The University studies the results of in-term and NSS feedback which then drives changes in procedures and course delivery as well as strategic investment in resources, equipment and teaching spaces.

As a School of Art we saw spectacular results in 2016. Our students gave us the highest score 100% both for Overall Satisfaction and for the BA Fine Art program. That’s 16 points above the UK average for art & design and the best in the UK! In all seven categories of questions, the School of Art scored well above the national average for the subject:
