Enterprise Support For Students, Staff and Graduates

Information:

  • Initial confidential 'business start-up surgery' sessions are available to anyone with a new business idea, wanting to discuss the issues and options concerning turning the idea into a new enterprise.

Advice:

  • Final year undergraduates and people who have graduated within the previous five years, whose business is likely to employ others and turnover at least £25,000 in year one are offered 6 months pre-start and 12 months post-start one-to-one coaching and mentoring through the Welsh Government's  Flexible Support for Business, Graduate Start-up Support (GSS) Programme.

Training:

  • The Crisalis Enterprise Network holds regular events to promote enterprise on-Campus, using Dynamo role models from industry.
  • The Network also hosts GSS modular workshops to help people to develop different aspects of their business plans.
  • Biannually, each December and June, Crisalis runs a Business Start-up Week, comprising a concentrated programme of enterprise activities.
  • Crisalis regularly makes available to students, external enterprise training opportunities such as the annual FLUX competition; six students are selected to represent the University at this national competition.

Space:

  • Where possible, we try to aid clients in finding suitable start-up space, either on-campus or off campus.

Funding:

  • Crisalis promotes GSS Enterprise Bursaries, each worth £6,000 in support of growth potential graduate businesses that are likely to employ others and turn over £80,000 in year one
  • We support Spin-out / Spin-in businesses through our partnership with Finance Wales’ Early Stage Development Fund.
  • We also provide information about other forms of business start-up grant support, such as Welsh Assembly Government's “SIF” funding and the Local Authority’s “LIF” funding.
