Offering Consultancy Services
The University is committed to making expertise available to local, regional, national and international client companies by way of offering consultancy services.
What support is available to staff wishing to offer consultancy services?
From initial discussions regarding market opportunities through to contractual arrangements and payment processing, CCS offers a range of services to support academics to deliver consultancy services. CCS works on behalf of University academics and client companies to ensure that consultancy projects are undertaken under properly agreed contracts. Consultancy projects are contracted through Abertec Ltd, a wholly-owned trading company of the University, which provides professional indemnity insurance on all work undertaken.
What should I do if a company approaches me to provide consultancy services?
If as a member of academic staff you are approached by a third party to undertake consultancy work you should contact CCS as soon as possible. Following discussions with yourself, CCS will negotiate a price for the work and put in place appropriate contractual arrangements. Following the completion of the work CCS will invoice the client company and distribute revenue from consultancy work in accordance with the agreement.
If you have any queries relating to Consultancy Services and Intellectual Property matters please contact Chris Heidt (Contracts & Operations Manager) or James Hudson (Technology Transfer Manager).
