Internship Opportunity with the European Union Institute of Security Studies

From September to December 2011, the European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) is providing a limited number of internships to candidates who have or are about to obtain their first degree, as well as to young researchers from universities or research institutes.

The closing date for applications is 20 June 2011.

Applications should include:

  • a completed application form
  • a brief CV;
  • a covering letter, outlining the reasons for the candidate’s interest in the Institute’s internship programme;
  • dates of availability (between September and December).

Completed applications should be sent via e-mail to Marie Antonini no later than 20 June 2011.

Decisions will be communicated to the candidates on 29 July 2011.

For internships in the first half of 2012, a new application period will open in autumn 2011.

 

Euopean Parliament Stagiaire Position with Richard Howitt MEP

Applications are invited for the position of stagiaire (trainee) in the office of Richard Howitt MEP, based at the European Parliament in Brussels.

Richard is Labour MEP for the East of England, Labour Link-Person on Foreign Affairs and on Employment and Social Affairs, and applicants with an interest or experience of the latter policy areas would be an advantage.

Applicants must be a member of the British Labour Party or a sister Socialist Party or be willing to join.

This will be an eleven-month stage beginning in September, and will be paid a monthly net minimum of €1450 as well as out-of-pocket expenses. This is a particularly exciting opportunity for a recent graduate/ post-graduate who is looking to move further in either the political or EU fields. The stage will entail the following:

  • - Providing briefings and drafting speeches on a wide range of policy areas
  • - focusing on Richard's key interests as well as constituency issues.
  • - Organising meetings, conferences and receptions within the Parliament.
  • - Managing Richard's Brussels and International diary including assisting with travel arrangements.
  • - Representing Richard at a variety of meetings in his absence and reporting back to the MEP.
  • - General administration, correspondence and office duties.

Shadowing Experience with Dr Kay Swinburne MEP, European Parliament, Brussels

The Centre for European Studies advertises two one-week shadowing opportunities with Dr Kay Swinburne, MEP, at the European Parliament, Brussels. Shadowing an MEP offers a unique, practical and personal experience of working alongside an MEP. Both travel and accommodation costs will be covered for by Dr Swinburne and they are scheduled for 17-21 October 2011 and 7-11 November 2011 respectively. The deadline for application has now passed. Interviews to be held within the next two weeks.
