Overview of European funding opportunities for the Centre for European Studies (PowerPoint)

Innovative research with impact is at the core of the CES activities and is aligned to Aberystwyth University’s Research and Collaboration strategies. All members of the Centre, including academic, postgraduate/undergraduate students and its alumni, actively engage in the development of the Centre’s research activities. As such, the funding raised by the centre will, in reference to Aberystwyth University’s Sustainability and Financial and Asset Management strategy, primarily be used to optimise support for full-time doctoral level research studentships. Other research activities will include:

University lecture series

  • By academic members of the CES on their current research
  • By postgraduate students on their current research
  • For undergraduate students to encourage further investigation at postgraduate level

CES special lecture series

  • Annual key note lecture – by European political, policy, business or legislative leader
  • Annual Symposium – key note speaker with associated workshops

 CES special short-term bursaries and fellowships

  • To enable student research activities including internship placements at the European and national Parliaments
  • To enable teaching and collaborative research with other UK/EU institutions

 CES liaison with European and International professional networks (e.g. UACES, ECPR etc.)                   

  • To enable student and staff engagement with current research and teaching
  • To enable joint workshops and other research/teaching activities

 CES impact agenda

  • To develop contacts with UK/EU government representatives to offer research/3rd mission activities
  • To establish contacts with leading UK/EU and international think-tank organisations to share knowledge

 Research Funding

The CES will actively seek research funding to support its research led teaching activities. These will include:

  • Departmental bids: to RCUK, EU and other funding sources
  • Interdepartmental bids: working collegially on joint funding applications
  • Collaborative bids: with UK and international partners
