Aberystwyth University can offer three Welsh medium research scholarships for 2012-13.

Agriculture : Farm Animal Production

Applications for a PhD scholarship are invited in Farm Animal Production Science in IBERS, Aberystwyth University to begin on 1 October 2012. This scholarship is funded by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol as part of its Research Scholarships Scheme. Here is a brilliant opportunity for students to develop their research skills in an institution which is committed to research excellence as well as Welsh medium education.  The scholarship holder will be expected to develop materials and then lecture on animal production systems  through the medium of Welsh to Years 1 and 2 during the period of the Scholarship. The scholarship holder will also be expected to lay the foundations for further development with Year 3 students. In addition the scholarship holder will establish a research scheme for a PhD degree in animal science. It is probable that the research will be in the subject area of dairy cows or in a related field. The scholarship holder will receive the usual University research training during the first year of the doctorate.  International Politics

Applications for a Welsh medium PhD scholarship are invited in the department of Inernational Politics, Aberystwyth University to begin on 1 October 2012. This scholarship is funded by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol as part of its Research Scholarships Scheme. This is a brilliant opportunity to undertake postgraduate study in a world renowned department and contribute to the department's Welsh medium teaching programme, while promoting the Coleg's mission.  Applications are invited from individuals who have research interests in any field related to International Politics and especially from those with emphasis on one of the following subfields : Intelligence, Security, History of International Politics, The Third World or Strategy. Details about the research interests of current research staff in the department are to be found on the departmental website http://www.aber.ac.uk/en/interpol/ .   It is expected that the scholarship holder will develop materials and teach through the medium of Welsh to undergraduate students up to 5 hours a week from their second year onwards.

 Law and Criminology : Criminology or Criminology and Law

 Applications for a Welsh medium PhD scholarship are invited in the department of Law and Criminology, Aberystwyth University to begin on 1 October 2012. This scholarship is funded by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol as part of its Research Scholarships Scheme.  The Department intends to extend its provision in Criminology and Law, concentrating in particular on Criminology. The teaching duties of the scholarship holder will include teaching on the LLB and BA degree schemes, and/or the major/minor BA scheme of Law with Criminology and the BscEcon Criminology scheme at an undergraduate level. The subject that s/he will be expected to teach are Contract Law, Criminal Law, Introduction to Criminology and Elements of Criminology.  Applicants are invited from enthusiastic individuals with good academic experience. The successful applicant will be expected to have a 2:1 degree (or be expected to gain a 2:1 degree) in Law and/or Criminology. We also invite applications from applicants who have graduated in another discipline but have a Masters level qualification in Law and/or Criminology.
