Dr Mark Neal, co-ordinator of the Intelligent Robotics Research Group helped pupils at Ysgol Gymraeg, Aberystwyth build a capsule containing a camera and launch it on a helium balloon from the playground. The onboard camera took images from more than 15 miles up including mid Wales, Cardigan Bay, the Lleyn Peninsula and the south west of England - before the balloon burst.

The Festival of Code is an annual national event which sets out to find and foster every young person driven to teach themselves how to code. During an intense week-long event they are introduced to both local and national like-minded peers where they use freely available open data (for instance transport, weather, environmental, finance and scientific) to make websites, apps and other awesome solutions to real world challenges, effectively programming the world around them

This year 5 students from Aberystwyth were finalists in the BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium poster contest. All finalists won scholarships for travel, and due to the distance between Aberystwyth and Reading, two nights in a hotel too.
