Book Festival Success
14 December 2012
Students who follow the ‘Cyflwyniad i Gymraeg Proffesiynol’ module are to be warmly congratulated on the success of their contribution to this year’s Aberystwyth University Book Festival. The lively Welsh language line-up arranged by the students received a very positive reception, and was praised by all who attended. As well as arranging the programme of events, the students were also responsible for chairing all the sessions and interviews with the following authors: Gwennan Evans, Cyril Jones, Eurig Salisbury and Robat Gruffudd, winner of this year’s Daniel Owen Prize at the National Eisteddfod. The budding young poets and creative writers who are students in the Welsh Department, Jacob Ellis, Endaf Griffiths and Robin Williams, also held a public reading session. One of the student organisers, Catrin Herbert, performed songs from her recently released CD, ‘Rhwng y Gwir a’r Gau a Phopeth Rhwng y Ddau’, and also sung one or two of her newly composed lyrics.
The students wish to thank Elgan Philip Davies, the University’s Welsh Librarian, for all his advice and assistance in preparing for the festival. After the event, Dr Bleddyn O. Huws, the module coordinator said:
‘I’m extremely proud of my students’ achievement, and I warmly congratulate them on arranging and staging such an attractive programme. It’s encouraging for a teacher to see his students respond to an ambitious and challenging task with such enthusiasm and creativity. They have learnt the skills of teamwork, and every single one of them will benefit from this invaluable experience.’
