Professor Patrick Sims-Williams wins the Vernam Hull Prize

The University of Wales has awarded this year’s Vernam Hull Prize to Patrick Sims-Williams, FBA, Professor of Celtic Studies in the Department of Welsh, Aberystwyth University, for his book Irish Influence on Medieval Welsh Literature (Oxford University Press, 2011). The prize is named after Vernam Hull, Professor of Celtic in Harvard University who died in 1976. According to Professor Dafydd Johnston, ‘this rich volume is a scholarly work of the first rank which demands close attention from everyone interested in medieval Welsh literature, and it is sure to stimulate further research in many areas in the years to come’. Professor Sims-Williams said, ‘I am very proud to receive this recognition as I finish my enjoyable period as Head of this outstanding Department’.
