Dr Mihangel Morgan
Mihangel Morgan wrote his PhD dissertation on Themâu, Motiffau a Chymeriadau yng ngwaith John Gwilym Jones (‘The Themes, Motifs and Characters of John Gwilym Jones’). His main field of interest is 20th and 21st century literature, although he has published an article on Ellis Wynne and is also a lecturer on the ‘Llên 1640-1740’ module, along with Dr Huw Meirion Edwards. He has published two volumes in the Llên y Llenor series - Jane Edwards and Caradog Prichard. His articles on John Gwilym Jones, Kate Roberts, Caradog Prichard and Waldo Williams have appeared in Llên Cymru, Y Traethodydd and Ysgrifau Beirniadol.
As module co-ordinator for ‘Llên Gwerin Hen a Chyfoes: Patrymau Byw’, a module which examines folklore, past and present, he has a keen interest in contemporary folk tales and urban folk tales and is currently working on a series of essays on topics such as tales associated with the ‘Salem’ picture, recent Halloween traditions and the development of Christmas traditions in Wales.
Apart from this, Mihangel Morgan has published studies on the visual arts, including a review on Catrin Howells’ work, the work of the photographer Weegee and Welsh films.
Mihangel Morgan’s main interest is his literary work. To date, he has published three volumes of poetry, five volumes of short stories, seven novels, a novel for Welsh learners and a book of poetry for children. He is currently working on another novel and on a book of family memoirs.
He is a member of the Gender Studies in Wales panel.
