Celebration Weekend

On the weekend of 29th June to 1st July 2018, we will be celebrating the history and legacy of Geography and Earth Sciences at Aberystwyth by inviting back former students, members of staff and friends of the department. It will be the perfect opportunity to catch-up with old classmates, relive memories of college life, and find out about the exciting work of the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences today.

The weekend will kick off informally on the Friday evening with the opportunity to compete against other graduate cohorts and lecturers in a Geogsoc Quiz, raising money for our Centenary Fund that will support bursaries and awards for students. On the Saturday a full programme will include talks by current and former lecturers and graduates, demonstrations and displays, tours of the department, an exhibition on the department’s history with screenings of old films and videos, and family-friendly activities, culminating in a celebration dinner on Saturday evening. Then on Sunday there will be a chance to unwind with fieldtrips around the local area led by favourite lecturers past and present.

To register your interest in attending the Celebration Weekend or other centenary events, and to let us know what you are doing and contribute to our project on the department’s history, please complete our online questionnaire:
