Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research, Data and Methods (WISERD)

WISERD is jointly funded from the Welsh Assembly Government (HEFCW) and the UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) to draw together and build upon the existing expertise in quantitative and qualitative research methods and methodologies at Cardiff, Swansea, Aberystwyth, Bangor and Glamorgan Universities.

WISERD is embarking on an ambitious data integration, primary research and capacity building programme in Wales.

Professor Martin Jones and Professor Mike Woods jointly lead the Aberystwyth aspect of the project, which focuses on data collection in a number of Welsh localities. In particular, their research seeks to:

  • Develop an understanding of the complex links between various levels of economic activity and local environments;
  • Access understanding of local knowledge and the potential for community led developments;
  • Outline and evaluate the variety of forms of human resources in different localities.
