I have been involved with computer systems in libraries since 1972 when I joined the department having graduated with a degree in Computer Science in 1969. In 1979 I took a 13 year (!) maternity leave from full-time work within the department and have been a lecturer since 1992 on a half-time basis. I have been fortunate in having been invited to lecture or run workshops in many parts of the world and since 2000 have visited Argentina, Brunei, Czech Republic, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Switzerland and Thailand for work purposes. During 2000-2 I was one of a group of 12 international ‘experts’ advising UNESCO (in South East Asia) on the development of a training package on library automation. I was also the co-ordinator within the Department for a programme of ICT-based training for Welsh public librarians in the early 2000s, as well as a project involved in producing distance learning materials for Slovakian librarians. My most recent book, Digital libraries: principles and practice in a global environment, was written with Prof. Andy Large of McGill University and published in 2005 as both a print book and an e-book.
I enjoy walking and spending time with my 3 grown-up children.
