The following information is applicable to campus-based students
Late submission of work
It is important to submit coursework by the specified date. Faculty Policy states that if work which is part of the formal assessment is not handed in on time a penalty will be imposed.
The penalty is as follows:
- work submitted after the deadline will be awarded a zero.
Part 1 UG Students
- if as a consequence, the module is failed, a resit will be allowed.
Part 2 UG Students & Postgraduate
- if as a consequence, the module is failed, a resit will not be allowed.
If there is a reason why work cannot be submitted on time, you must:
- contact the Department (Personal Tutor or Department Administrator/s ) in advance of your deadline date
- note this on your Assignment Declaration Sheet
- if appropriate, complete the University’s Special Circumstances Form available online here and hand in to the DIS reception office .
Special circumstances will normally only be considered on the following grounds, with appropriate supporting documentation e.g. a medical certificate:
- Illness
- Severe personal/family problems (e.g. family bereavement)
The following will not be considered as Special Circumstances:
- Computer failure (you should ensure adequate backups)
- Printer queues (time management is an important academic skill)
- Lack of access to resources (better planning will ensure this does not happen)
- Illness for which a medical certificate is not available
- Poor time management
- More than one deadline on the same day
- Inability to answer question or struggling with the material
- Crisis Games, Performance Productions, or Departmental study trips
- Non-Academic activities
Please note:
Individual staff may not grant extensions. In exceptional circumstances the Programme Team Leader may grant an extension, but this is not normal practice. All extenuating circumstances, together with supporting documentary evidence will be considered at the relevant examination board. The penalty imposed is at the discretion of the examination board.
Non-submission of course work
Please note:
Students who fail modules because of uncondoned absence from examinations or non-submission of an element or elements of coursework may be denied a resit opportunity.
