Block Group Partnership - AHRC PhD Studentship
For students entering in September 2013, the Department of English and Creative Writing will be offering a Literary Studies PhD studentship as part of AU's Block Group Partnership AHRC award. This studentship covers fees and includes a maintenance allowance. In order to be considered for the September 2013 award, you will need to have submitted a full PhD application to the Postgraduate Admissions Office by 31 January 2013. Shortlisting for the award will take place after the deadline. Please note that PhD students in their second and third years of study are not eligible for this competition.
Doctoral Career Development Scholarship
The Department is supporting the DCDS award for PhD students entering in September 2013. The award is open to PhD applicants in all areas of literary studies and creative writing. In order to be considered for the September 2013 award, you will need to have submitted a full PhD application to the Postgraduate Admissions Office by 31 January 2013. There is no separate application form for the DCDS. Shortlisting for the award will take place after the deadline. Please note that PhD students in their second and third years of study are not eligible for this competition.
Departmental PhD Studentships
In Summer 2013, the Department will award a number of PhD scholarships. The awards, covering fees, are open to PhD applicants in all areas of literary studies and creative writing. There is no separate application form for these studentships. In order to be considered for these awards, you must have been offered a place on the PhD scheme by 1 August 2013. Please note that PhD students in their second and third years of study are not eligible for this competition.
Departmental MA Prizes
Departmental prizes will be awarded to three outstanding MA applicants at the beginning of the academic year. Students who have accepted places on the MA in Literary Studies (including pathways) and the MA in Creative Writing are eligible to apply for:
- the R S Thomas Prize (£500)
- the Sarah Hall Prize (£500
- The new “Tintern Abbey” MA bursary is a one-off award of £780 to be awarded to the strongest application for the MA in Literary Studies (pathway in Eighteenth Century Writing and Romanticism ). Deadline for receipt of applications: 1 August 2013. (No separate application form is necessary.)
Application forms for the prizes will be distributed to all MA applicants who have accepted places in the summer preceding the commencement of their MA.
The Department is usually able to assist with a small annual travel and conference grant, as well as some support with the expense of Inter-Library Loans.
There are also Aberystwyth award schemes for which non-EU students can apply.
