Research Outline

In addition to an application form, prospective research students must submit a research outline of 1000 words.  This should include:

  1. Title
  2. Key research questions to be addressed
  3. Sources/methodology
  4. Why you are interested in this topic

If you are thinking of submitting a proposal for PhD study to us, the above list is merely indicative.  For more specific information, please begin by looking at the research interests of the English Department staff.  Under each name you will find a brief list of the broad topic-areas in which that person is able to offer PhD supervision. In outlining your proposal, you should ensure that it has some compatibility with the topic-areas of at least one member of the Department's staff.

Applicants are strongly advised to contact the Department first before constructing their outline proposal.
