Students, staff and visitors representing a diverse range of people in our community and a variety of university activities, provide statements that describe our inclusive focus on equality and diversity at Aberystwyth University. Each contributor delivers their line in a location relevant to them.
Diversity and Equality are embedded in everything that we do as a university and the Equality Scheme describes our commitment to equality and diversity.
It sets out how I can expect to be treated here…
and what’s expected of ME, in the way I deal with other people…
there are over 8500 students and 2000 staff here at the university, from 100 different countries…
and of course, there are lots of visitors…
we all have rights and responsibilities…
even those of us who aren’t on campus are still part of the community.
The Equality Scheme ensures that the University community operates with true equality and diversity….
to nurture an environment where we’re valued as individuals…
where we’re treated with fairness and understanding…
with dignity and respect…
where you’re encouraged to fulfil your potential by using your strengths…
to nurture an environment where we can work, learn and flourish…
where we can develop our skills and knowledge…
all without fear of discrimination…
regardless of race or faith…
gender, transgender or sexual orientation…
disability or age.
This is more than a simple statement on how Aberystwyth University responds to legislative requirements. It demonstrates that equality is an essential part of how the university operates from day to day.
