Development & Maintenance
Team Mission
Through efficient reactive maintenace, robust planned maintenance and coordinated project planning, the team aims to support all current and future building fabric needs of the University. This includes all electrical, mechanical and structural assets of the Estate.
Team Sections
The Maintenance Team consists of four main areas of expertise:
- Electrical: Maintenance, testing and repair of electrical systems, fire and smoke alarms, fixtures and equipment, lighting, etc.
- Mechanical: Maintenance and repair of heating, hot & cold water systems, boilers, gas safety testing, etc.
- Structural: Bricklaying, plastering, plumbing, painting, decorating, carpentry, joinery, roads, paths, fences, signage, etc.
- Stores: Supplying tools, equipment, work-wear and consumables to Estates Operatives.

The Projects Team delivers co-ordinated management of large and small scale development projects across the University's estate.
The Grounds Team takes care of the University's external landscape. The University is justifiably proud of the presentation of its campus and the hard-work and dedication of the Grounds Team. In the management of the grounds we strive to use environmentally sensitive techniques such as using garden waste to produce compost and mulching materials with minimum use of pesticides and weed control in planted areas by hoeing, hand weeding and mulching. We provide tree maintenance and an emergency response service when necessary. The Grounds Team supports ceremonies and other University events and endeavours to maintain the campus as an aesthetically pleasing and safe environment in which to work and study.
