Spanish

Spanish at Abersytwyth is taught within the Department of European Languages. This mean that the study of the language (for many students, combined with French, or German, or Italian) takes place in a context which necessarily (and in our view, beneficially) emphasizes the relationship of the language, as well as of its literature and culture, to other major European languages. This conviction that it is desirable to see Spanish not in isolation, but as part of a wider European picture, also underpins the recent changes we have made to our first-year courses, where students are offered the opportunity to explore Film, or Language and Identity, or Images of Europe, in their European setting.

In addition to courses in Spanish language skills at all levels, we offer tuition in such fields as Spanish literature (prose, poetry and drama), Spanish art and cinema, contemporary politics, and Spanish language course for business purposes.

Spanish is available in combination with a range of subjects from inside and outside the department, including French, German, Education, European Studies, Geography, History, Marketing, International Politics, Mathematics, Welsh, Drama and Film Studies.
