Composition
- The Pro Vice-Chancellor with responsibility for Equal Opportunities (in the Chair)
- Two members nominated by and from the Council
- One member nominated by and from the Senate
- One member nominated by and from the Staffing Committee
- One student member nominated by the Guild of Students
- One member nominated by the Joint Union Co-ordinating Committee
The Committee shall be entitled to co-opt additional members for a specified period not exceeding three years.
Also in attendance: Registrar and Secretary, Director of Student Support Services, Director of Human Resources, Director of Recruitment and Admissions, Equalities Advisor (or a substitute nominated by the Registrar and Secretary).
The Committee shall meet at least three times in each academic year.
Terms of reference
- To promote equal opportunities in all areas of the university's activities.
- To formulate the university's equal opportunities policies and action plans, including its Strategic Equality Plan and Action Plan.
- To oversee the implementation and development of such policies and action plans, and to monitor their operation.
- To produce an Annual Equality Report for Council in line with its statutory duty.
- To advise Senate and Council on developments in law and practice relating to equal opportunities.
- To promote the dissemination of good practice.
- To receive reports on relevant issues from: the Human Resources Department; Staffing Committee; Recruitment Committee; Student Support Services Committee; Equality and Diversity Networks.
