The Council is the governing body of the University of Wales Charter Aberystwyth, and is responsible for the conduct of the affairs of the institution, having regard to the objects of the institution. In particular the Council is the administrative and financial authority of the institution, and controls and undertakes the management of all the funds, property, investments and incomes of the institution - Article XIII.
The responsibilities of the members of Council, collectively and individually, are outlined in Annex 1 to these Standing Orders. Notes of Guidance for members of Council, including a statement on Public Interest Disclosure, were approved and adopted by the Council on 20.12.2000 - Council, 3.4.96, Actum 37, Council, 20.12.00, Actum 7.
Should there be any discrepancy between the Standing Orders and the Charter, Statutes, Ordinances or Regulations the latter shall be regarded as authoritative.
Officers of the Council
The President shall preside at all meetings of the Council. If the President is absent or unwilling to preside, the chair shall normally be taken by one of the following, selected in the order shown - Statute 15(5):
The longest-serving Vice-President, if present
The other Vice-President, if present
The Treasurer, if present
A member of the Council chosen by those present, not being a member of the Staff of the university or a member of the Organisation of Students
The Registrar and Secretary shall be Secretary of the Council.
