The following provisions shall, unless specified otherwise below, apply to all elections conducted by the Council:
If, in any election, the number of candidates nominated does not exceed the number of vacancies, the Chairman shall declare the candidates duly elected.
When the number of persons duly nominated for election exceeds the number of vacancies to be filled, the election shall be by secret ballot of the members present at the meeting.
The arrangements for the conduct of elections to committees which report of the Council are set out in an Administrative Regulation - Administrative Regulation: 'Committees reporting to the Council'.
Where a ballot is held for the filling of one vacancy, the Alternative Vote method shall apply. Where there are two or more vacancies to be filled, the Single Transferable Vote method shall apply.
For any election by secret ballot the Council shall appoint two scrutineers from among the members present.
Declaration of results
After the result of any ballot has been declared the voting papers employed therein shall after a period of one month hereafter be destroyed.
