Standing Orders of the Senate

5.
Procedure at Meetings
  1. Five members of the Senate shall be a quorum.

    Order of Business
  2. The order of business at ordinary meetings shall be:

    A. Matters for Discussion
    1. Confirmation and signature of the Minutes of the preceding Ordinary Meeting and of subsequent Special Meetings. The reading of Minutes shall not be necessary.
    2. Matters arising out of the Minutes.
    3. To note any items from Section ‘B' to be discussed after Section ‘A' is completed.
    4. Chairman's business.
    5. Correspondence.
    6. Elections.
    7. Matters arising from Reports of Committees and Reports of Representatives.
    8. Motions by Members.
    9. Items from Section ‘B'.
    10. Matters of urgency brought forward with the consent of the Senate.
    B. Matters for Report
    11.
    Matters arising out of the Minutes.
    12.
    Other matters.
    13.
    Reports of Committees:
    1. Standing Committees
    2. Faculties
    3. Other Committees
    14.
    Reports of Representatives:
    1. Court of Governors
    2. Council
    3. Other Representatives
  3. The Senate may refer any matter to a special Committee.
  4. Voting shall be by show of hands, unless a proposal for a vote by ballot is carried. The Chairman may vote on any Motion and shall also have a casting vote. The Statutes provide that a majority of those present and voting shall decide a question.
  5. The Chairman may adjourn a meeting of the Senate.

    Suspension of Standing Orders
  6. Any Standing Order of the Senate relating to procedure may be suspended at any meeting provided three quarters of the members' present vote in favour of suspension.
