Terms of Reference:
New terms of reference are needed to embrace new policy aims and objectives and the HE fee plans, with corresponding Widening Access Strategy (jointly prepared with Bangor). Also, to take on board the regionalisation agenda (CADARN) and to avoid duplication of work with the North and Mid-Wales Reaching Wider Partnership. The Committee has a particular responsibility for directing and monitoring the institution's widening access strategy. The following terms of reference are proposed:
- To oversee the strategic development, alignment and coordination of the institutions widening participation and social inclusion policies, in particular the institution’s widening access strategy
- To provide policy direction for the Centre for Widening Participation and Social Inclusion.
- To involve academic departments and non-academic departments directly in widening participation and supporting the more diverse student population, and modes of study which emerge from it.
- To monitor the performance of the institution in widening access and participation and advise on related HEFCW targets, with particular regard to Community first area students.
- To identify and facilitate more pathways to higher learning through collaboration internally (between departments) and externally through partnership with a range of providers including other HEI's FEC's, Training agencies and voluntary sector bodies.
- To coordinate the institution's regional role in increasing levels of attainment and aspiration for people of all ages to facilitate progression to HE.
- To disseminate best practice in widening participation and to work with Centre for the Development of Staff and Academic Practice in this area.
- In particular, the Committee Chair will receive regular reports on / from:
- The Centre for Widening Participation and Social Inclusion
- The Regional Operational Group (Mid) of the North and Mid-Wales Reaching Wider Partnership
- Student Support
- The Arts Centre
- Equalities Officer (HR)
