Living by the Book

Members of the Department have been involved in the history series ‘Byw yn ôl y Llyfr’ (Living by the Book) for Welsh-language channel S4C.
The popular show involved two presenters – Bethan Gwanas and Tudur Owen – trying to live according to a Victorian lifestyle handbook, ‘Cyngor i Bawb ar Bob Peth’ (Advice for Everyone on Everything). The series saw Aberystwyth lecturers Iwan Morys and Owen Roberts, as well as recent former PhD students Meilyr Emrys and Gwennan Schiavone, involved as consultants and on-screen. They found themselves doing anything from advising on Victorian bread-making, sampling contemporary train travel, re-creating the Victorian Christmas, and mixing potions in order to make clothing fireproof (an experiment which wasn’t entirely successful!).
