Undergraduate Admissions

Admissions

If you would enjoy life in a close-knit student community, if you would like the chance to study with experts in their field who emphasize teaching in small groups, if you would be attracted by a campus in a superb setting where the mountains meet the sea, then History at Aberystwyth may be the right choice for you. The Department of History and Welsh History offers a wide range of degree courses which includes Single Honours schemes in History, Modern History and Politics, History & Welsh History, History & Media and History & Social and Economic History as well as Joint Honours schemes involving History, Welsh History and Social and Economic History. Dr Owen Roberts is the Admissions Tutor for the Department.

Entry Requirements

A typical offer for A-level candidates is around 300 points. A level General Studies, Welsh Baccalaureate, and AS levels may be included. History is preferred but not obligatory and we also accept candidates with high grades in other subjects and a strong commitment to studying history at university level. Offers are not conditional on interviews, but applicants to whom offers are made are strongly urged to attend one of the Visiting Days held during the course of the spring, where they will have the opportunity to meet individual members of staff and tour the campus in the company of student guides. Entry requirements may be lowered following a strong performance by a candidate in the Entrance Scholarship examinations.

Equivalent entry requirements include 29 points in the International Baccalaureate.

The Department also welcomes applications from students without conventional A level qualifications, including mature students and those following Access or BTEC courses or their equivalent.

Clearing

In some years, a small number of places may be available in August through Clearing. Please contact the Department for further details.
