The PROSOIL Project

Healthy soils are the true drivers of sustainable and profitable agriculture

The IBERS PROSOIL project is about:

  • How grassland farming practices affect soil health
  • Management strategies to promote healthier soils for high yielding and high quality grassland and to give environmental benefits
  • Collaboration between farmers, scientists and representatives from the agricultural supply chain industry to assess how healthy soils can improve Welsh farming businesses
  • Development farmers as part of IBERS team monitoring soil health indicators e.g. bulk density, soil water status, nutrient contents and earthworm populations
  • IBERS' Grassland Development Centre working with commercial development farms and farmer discussion groups
  • In the last two years of the project, the impacts of improvements in soil health on the quality of livestock products will be looked at
  • Look out for Open Days and farm walks, supported by fact-sheets and this dedicated website
