Research success for IBERS scientists

The results of the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) have shown IBERS to be a major and developing force in research within its field.

For RAE 2008 each submission of research received a Quality Profile indicating the percentage of activity judged to be at each of one of five quality levels, in terms of originality, significance and rigour: 4* (World-leading), 3* (Internationally excellent), 2* (Internationally recognised), 1* (Nationally recognised) or Unclassified.

• IBERS  scientists were ranked in the top 7 of UK Universities  (see Times Higher Education Table of excellence; Guardian Research Fortnight power rankings)
• Almost half of the research publications produced by IBERS scientists were rated as either ‘World class’ or ‘Internationally excellent’
• IBERS was the highest ranking Welsh University Department in its field
