Postgraduate Research

The training  of research postgraduate students in the full range of disciplines relevant to the biological and rural sciences is a key part of the IBERS mission. We aim to develop the next generation of skilled scientists to address the global challenges of food, water and energy security.  Our postgraduate students are inspired by world class research experts in their respective disciplines and proud of their affiliation with IBERS, Aberystwyth University and Wales. The normal entry requirement for the three-year PhD research programme is a good honours degree or its equivalent in a subject relevant to the intended area of research. A  honours degree in a suitable subject is also the normal requirement for entry into the two-year scheme leading to the MPhil degree. Applications are also welcomed from mature students and from non-graduates with appropriate experience that satisfy the University’s entry requirements. Each research group is lead by a senior scientist that will act as a point of contact for scientific based inquiries from prospective research postgraduates.  A supervisory team guides research training.  Structured training is also given to all research postgraduates to develop transferable, professional and interpersonal skills.
